Integrated Water Management

Complex projects that combine the expertise of each main field of activity - Reservoir exploitation and dam design - Flood risk mitigation - Water resources management – AquaGeo, with a focus on the principles of sustainable, environmentally friendly management and resilient infrastructure
  • Fish ladders at dams and weirs
  • Complex exploitation of multiple-use dams
  • Integrated sediment management – reservoirs, rivers and slope erosion control
  • Nature-based solutions
  • River restoration
  • Sustainable drainage systems
  • Restoring habitats for water-dependent species

Projects

The Buftea Reservoir is part of a series of 15 lakes arranged in a cascade along the Colentina River, being the first permanent reservoir upstream.

Through the implementation of the proposed rehabilitation works and the construction of the non-permanent Cretu–Urziceanca reservoir upstream, the 0.5% verification flow will be significantly reduced. As a result, the Buftea Reservoir will be able to safely absorb the flood wave, meeting the following objectives:

  • Reducing the risk coefficient, minimizing structural degradation, and lowering future execution costs;
  • Protecting downstream communities (households, land, roads, bridges, and power lines, etc.) from flooding, particularly the municipality of Bucharest;
  • Preserving the ecological balance of the area.

Analysis on the Implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in Văcărești Natural Park, Bucharest, through the Reuse of Rainwater and the Utilization of Cooling Water from the Adjacent Shopping Center

The project is grounded in updated topographic surveys and detailed geological studies, as well as in the design of efficient biofiltration solutions, based entirely on NBS principles. The aim is to enhance the habitat and improve the quality of life for amphibians in the park, while significantly contributing to the development of urban biodiversity and strengthening ecological sustainability in the area.

The project aims to significantly reduce flood risk in vulnerable areas of the Upper Ialomița River Basin, downstream of the Pucioasa Reservoir.

It addresses key issues identified within the project’s area of interest—five Areas with Potential Significant Flood Risk, as outlined in the Buzău–Ialomița Flood Risk Management Plan (FRMP). The objectives include:

  • Flood protection for populations exposed to flood risks;
  • Reduction of sedimentation in the Pucioasa reservoir, currently at a sedimentation rate of 83.27%, through dredging operations;
  • Rehabilitation of the Pascov–Ialomița diversion channel in Dâmbovița County (length: 2.5 km);
  • Bank erosion control;
  • Construction of a monitoring and training center for the Buzău–Ialomița Water Basin Administration (ABA);
  • Preservation of natural floodplain areas (green measures) along the Ialomița River, totaling 530.7 hectares;
  • Afforestation of 9.91 hectares at the material deposition site in the locality of Șotânga, where sediment from dredging will be stored.

The project is co-funded by the European Union under the POIM 2014–2020 program, and stands out due to the complexity and diversity of its works and flood risk mitigation measures, as well as the inter-institutional collaboration between ABA, ANAR, and Romsilva.

Aquaproiect SA has been involved in all stages of the project as designer and technical consultant from 2019 until now, with construction works expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
